Introduction of NM 500 steel plates

 

NM 500 steel plates are abrasion-resistant steel plates with a hardness of 500 HBW. The strength of the NM500 steel plate is higher than that of ordinary low alloy steel plate, and the wear-resistant performance has been improved by 2-3 times. Excellent wear resistance significantly extends the service life of the steel plate.

NM 500 steel VS Hardox 500 steel

 

The main differences between the two steel plates will be introduced from five aspects: chemical composition, wear resistance, application, cost, and processing.

1. Chemical composition

From the chemical composition point of view, the chromium content of the Hardox500 steel plate is up to 2.2%, and the chromium content of the NM500 steel plate is 0.7%-1%. The Cr content of Hardox500 steel plate is relatively high, which helps to form a denser oxide film and increase wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

2. Wear-resistance

NM500 steel plates provide wear resistance mainly in mechanical equipment. However, the Hardox500 steel plate can provide higher wear resistance due to its advanced production standards and technology. In comparison, under extreme wear conditions, Hardox500 steel is superior to NM500 steel.

3. Applications

NM500 steel: excavator buckets, truck beds, crushers, chutes, etc.

For example, because the Hardox500 steel plate has a relatively low carbon equivalent, it has better resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking than the NM500 steel plate.
